Superior

Fast-growing small town with nearly 600 acres of parks and green space.

Welcome to Superior

Superior is a fast-growing small town in Colorado with big plans for expansion, including a multi-use lifestyle center featuring retail, entertainment, office, and residential space. A Statutory Town in Boulder County, Superior has a long history of coal mining — the first mines in the area were developed in the late 19th century. Mining was a significant part of the town's culture and economy until 1945 when the Industrial Mine shut down. After that, the city quietly evolved into a farming and ranching community.

Later, in the 1990s, the town started to see significant growth due to residential development and new subdivisions. Today, Superior is known for its pleasant, small-town charms and surprisingly ample outdoor space. Despite being only about four square miles in total, Superior boasts nearly 600 acres of parks, green space, and an extensive 27-mile trail system.

What to Love

People & Lifestyle

Hailed as the third-best place to raise a family and the third-best suburb in all of Colorado, according to
Niche, Superior is a quickly growing small town with a bright future ahead. Plans for Superior include commercial and retail development. The town government also intends to add more single-family homes and multi-family residential units.

One of the most significant projects on the horizon is the development of Downtown Superior, which is expected to be completed within the next few years. In short, Superior is a beautiful, tidy, clean city with all of the whimsy, charm, and friendly neighbors one expects from a classic small town.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

PJ's Diner is an excellent Tex-Mex breakfast spot offering hearty breakfast burritos, burgers, sandwiches, omelets, and more. It's a small, cozy location that is very popular with the locals for its massive plates and home-cooked meals.

Nothing fills your belly quite like fresh-made authentic Italian food.
The Parma Trattoria & Mozzarella Bar in nearby Louisville is an upscale restaurant known for its decadent dishes such as meat, poultry, pizzas, salads, and pasta. All of the restaurant's cheeses come straight from Rome and Naples or are made specially in-house.

In Superior, there is no better place for Japanese food than Misaki's. Fresh sushi, seaweed salad, tasty miso soup, ramen, tempura, and sashimi are among the local favorites.

For your day-to-day shopping needs, Superior has a Whole Foods and Costco. Whole Foods is the national eco-minded chain selling natural and organic grocery items and other housewares. Buy in bulk and save big at Costco, a members-only wholesale warehouse.

Things to Do

Sports Stable is a state-of-the-art facility that just opened in 2016. Not only will you find facilities for almost any sport you can think of — including several skating rinks and an indoor soccer field — but Sports Table also has an adorable coffee shop and the Rock Creek Bar & Grill.

Coming soon to Superior is an incredible multi-use development center and master-planned community located right around the corner from Boulder and Denver. Along with 156 acres of housing and office developments featuring flexible working spaces and residential home styles, Downtown Superior will also feature an incredible selection of entertainment, retail, and dining.

Designed to emulate the perfect Colorado lifestyle, this massive lifestyle center will also have plenty of open space for hiking and biking. Unfortunately, the pandemic put a damper on the site's completion, but rest assured, it's coming soon!

Superior might be a relatively small town, but that doesn't mean it's without its recreational facilities and parks. You'll find hundreds of acres of parks, open space, and an extensive trail system to the west of Superior. Coal Creek Trail is a popular three-mile pathway that starts in Original Town and meanders all the way to Erie. You can walk or bike along the trail, and it takes you right through the heart of Old Town Louisville.

Schools

Superior's public schools, Superior Elementary and Eldorado PK-8, are run by the Boulder Valley School District. Public high school students are zoned for Monarch High School in Louisville.
